The Land of Opportunity
Happy Independence Day! Love it or hate it, there is no other country like the United States and there has never been a country like ours in the history of the world. A social experiment that was the first country to establish a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Assumed it would fail, this experiment has produced the country with the highest standard of living for the last 200 years in the least restrictive environment in world history.
A melting pot of races, the most ethnically diverse country in the world, foreigners from everywhere DREAM OF COMING HERE! When I see someone come to America, with no money, open a business and make millions of dollars that proves to me we have the greatest country in the world.
Have you ever wondered why many immigrants tend to make more money then people that grew up here? Because they believe they can. That’s it. Strangers in a strange land, they have more stacked against them than any other people group; they literally know no one, have zero support system, don’t even speak the language, and they still make it! I love the quote, if you believe you can or believe you can’t you’re usually right. If you think the system’s rigged, that is the lens you will see the world through and it will be rigged for you. Because you can find evidence for anything you look for, flat earth, UFO’s, Big Foot, ANYTHING! Not to say something doesn’t exist, but by focusing so much on a negative, you miss out on ALL the positives.
I love the words of Lamar Jackson when he said, Nobody Cares, Work Harder. I don’t think he literally meant no one cares, I think he meant, no one has the power to change it except you. He was saying yeah it might be f*#ked up but I refuse to play victim, I’m going to focus on what I can focus on, becoming better. It’s a very empowering message when you think about it. And how did that work out for him? Not bad I’d say.
To cast blame on outside factors is disempowering. It let’s you off the hook, but it literally robs you of your ability to change the situation. Sure I know the stats for people that grew up in the part of the city I did, in a single parent home, with a teenage mom, that made the decisions I made early in life, BUT I AM NOT A STATISTIC. I believe and have believed that the power to improve my situation is in MY hands. That belief has allowed me to change my whole life and do some incredible things. It doesn’t hurt that I live in the greatest country in the history of the world, The Land of Opportunity.
